Evidence available for most inland water and terrestrial organisms highlights the significant role played by southern Italy, Sicily and the Maltese islands as refuges during Pleistocene climatic fluctuations. Abstract The species of the genus Aequiyoldia Soot-Ryen, 1951, previously known as Yoldia, are common, soft-substratum, sareptid bivalves. In the Southern Ocean, Aequiyoldia eightsii (Jay, 1839) was originally described from the Antarctic Peninsula and has also been reported in southern South America. The species A. woodwardi (Hanley, 1960) was reported for the Falkland/Malvinas Islands and Tierra del Fuego, but this taxon has been recently synonymised within the broadly distributed A. eightsii. Neither Diplectanum nor specific: a dramatic twist to the taxonomic framework of Diplectanum (Monogenea: Diplectanidae).

The taxonomy of the genus Diplectanum has been exclusively based on morphological features, with 28 nominal species parasitic on perciform fishes recognised. We used molecular data, to our knowledge for the first time, to evaluate the taxonomic framework of Diplectanum, infer the relationships amongst species attributed to this genus, re-assess the degree of host specificity and explore the population genetic structure of Diplectanum spp. parasitising Mediterranean sciaenids, which are potential target fish species for aquaculture diversification in the region. First synthesis of single-“strapped cyclam-porphyrins”

The first synthesis of strapped cyclam porphyrins is described ; these will be studied as dioxygen carriers as well as cytochrome C oxidase models. The original derivatives are characterized by mass spectrometry and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The cofacial conformation of the two different macrocycles is confirmed by 1H NMR data.

Effects of cadmium chloride on some mitochondria-related activity and gene expression of human MDA-MB231 breast tumor cells.

ON THE OCCURRENCE OF RESPIRATORY COMPONENTS IN RAT-LIVER NUCLEI.

Summary 1. Low-temperature spectrophotometric studies have been carried out on rat-liver nuclei isolated by two different procedures. Comparison of nuclei prepared in non-aqueous media with those prepared in high-density sucrose reveals only small quantitative differences. 2. The presence of hemoglobin, cytochrome b 5 , and cytochrome c was detected in both types of nuclei. No cytochrome b , or cytochrome oxidase could be found. Studies on the possible origin of the hemoproteins suggest that hemoglobin and cytochrome b 5 are of extra-nuclear origin.
